Ava Grace: Portraits with a Horse

My 5 year old daughter’s been in this stage lately of feeling left out whenever I do a photo shoot and don’t take any photos of her. Like, she won’t talk to me, thinks I don’t love her….oh.sooooo.dramatic. SO, I thought maybe she was finally ready to do her own photo shoot. As a photographer, taking professional photos of your kids is almost impossible. Your kids are so sick of having you “practice” on them that they want nothing to do with you when you when the camera goes up. But I think we’re finally getting out of the “you taking my picture is so annoying stage” and entering the “oh my gosh, look at me, you must take my picture because I look so cute” stage.  Which is fine with me. If you haven’t noticed from my Facebook page, my daughter LOVES to pose. She comes to me all the time saying, “Mom! Get your camera, check out this new pose!”  And she had plenty of posing to do at this, her first photo shoot, with me. Since she’s been riding horses for a couple of years, I thought a photo shoot with horses would be perfect. And, since she loves getting all glammed up, we decided to turn it into a glamorous country girl photo shoot at a ranch in the beautiful Livermore, CA hills. The only problem was the pony we got for her to use was WILD. And I think he had a crush on me (or something…..)  because he would only stay still when I was close but the minute I started walking away, he would walk right towards me. The best part was listening to m my teeny 5 year old putting this pony in check.  So after a while of fighting with the pony to stay still…and losing light…!, we finally gave up and focused on the tiny being stuffed with cuteness that is my Ava Grace. And she rocked it. ……This is part one since we’ve decided to try the horse part again….stay tuned!

{And happy 1st day of Kindergarten my beautiful girl! You are the light of my life.}
